This project drew much public attention in the local community during design and construction. Civic pride in the precinct is extremely high and the need for improvement in services and overall appearance was of great importance.

The redevelopment not only provided a much-needed overhaul of the City Hall building, but also established an innovative re-organisation of facilities to ensure effective use. The change of use and upgrade of buildings provides a fitting conclusion to the redevelopment works carried out on the associated Cave Gardens precinct by increasing activities in the area and promoting the precinct as the civic hub of Mt Gambier.
