The old Mt Gambier Fire Station is an unusual and intact example of a mid 50's utilitarian purpose built service building. 

Adaptation for use by a small, independent optometrist required a careful, respectful extension giving the consultancy its commercial "shop front" without detracting from the heritage facade.
